Total Hip Replacement
Total hip arthroplasty, commonly known as hip replacement surgery, is a procedure that involves removing a damaged hip joint and replacing it with an artificial joint, typically made of metal and plastic. This surgery is often recommended for patients suffering from severe hip pain or disability due to conditions like arthritis or fracture. The goal of the procedure is to relieve pain, improve mobility, and enhance the overall quality of life. Recovery typically includes physical therapy to help patients regain strength and movement in the hip.

Dr. Abbitt utilizes an anterior based, muscle sparing, minimally invasive approach (ABMS or ABLE), allowing for a smaller incision and faster recovery compared to a standard total hip replacement. The components are made of a titanium alloy (acetabulum/stem), highly crosslinked polyethylene (liner), and ceramic (head ball).
